Can Dogs Drink Orange Juice?

Sharing is caring!

When it comes to bringing a new dog or puppy into your home, there is usually an adjustment period that follows.

During this education time, you and your dog will get to know each other and you will be able to discern your dog’s likes and dislikes – especially when it comes to what they drink.

Making sure that your dog is constantly hydrated can be a difficult and thankless task, for even though you may always have a bowl of water ready for them, your dog may show more interest in your own glass of soda or juice.

And when you are confronted with a big pair of watery eyes over the breakfast table, you may even consider just giving your pooch a little sip from your cup.

But should you do this? Although dogs have been known to enjoy a sip of beer or coffee from time to time, this does not mean that every human drink is suitable for their health or dietary needs. So if you are wondering what drinks you can give your beloved pet, then we have everything you need to know.

Down below we have gathered some useful information regarding the topic of dogs and their ability to drink orange juice – and whether you should give orange juice to your dog, to begin with.

Can Dogs Drink Orange Juice?

Orange juice is a drink that has become a symbol of breakfast and early mornings, as the juice is brimming with high levels of Vitamin C and can act as a source of energy and refreshment after a long night’s sleep.

Many of us have probably tried orange juice and drink it in the mornings to keep hydrated, enjoying the beverage for its distinctive and tangy flavour.

But does this mean you can give orange juice to your dogs? Well, the short and simple answer is yes, in theory, you can give your dog orange juice.

Not only is orange juice not toxic to dogs, but the beverage is known to contain high levels of minerals and nutrients, which can actually be beneficial for your dog’s development and health.

However, this does not mean that you should give your dog orange juice regularly, or even at all. In fact, we would highly recommend against adding orange juice to your dog’s diet, as many fruit juices are extremely acidic and can contain high levels of sugar and artificial ingredients.

If you want to ensure that your dog is keeping hydrated and eating a balanced diet, then we would recommend giving your pooch some slices of fruit, as this is a more beneficial and effective way to ensure they are getting all the vitamins and minerals that they need.

Can Dogs Eat Orange Slices?

If you are now interested in adding fruit to your dog’s diet, then you are probably wondering what fruit your dog can eat. Of course, a natural choice would be orange slices, as they are full of vitamins and minerals, but can your dog eat them?

Well, the answer to this question is yes, all breeds of dogs can eat orange slices. In fact, eating orange slices can be very beneficial and rewarding for your furry friend.

However, this does not mean that oranges can be eaten by all dogs, as the fruit has been known to elevate certain health conditions found among the canine family.

For example, you should never give oranges to a dog who suffers from obesity or diabetes, as the natural sugar in the fruit is capable of impacting your dog’s blood sugar levels and can lead to excess calories when overeaten.

Oranges are also a citrus fruit, which means they are very acidic in nature and this acidity can harm your dog’s stomach and digestive system.

If you are keen to introduce your dog to orange slices, then we would recommend only giving your pooch a small piece, to begin with, to ensure that there are no serious repercussions on their health.

Any treats that you give your dog (including orange slices) should never make up more than 10% of your dog’s daily calorie intake.

So if you are going to introduce orange slices into your dog’s diet, make sure that they are in small portions that will not affect your dog’s overall eating habits.

Can Dogs Drink Grape Juice?

Although most breeds of dogs can drink fruit juice without any negative or lasting effects, there is one type of juice that should be completely avoided – and that juice is grape juice.

Typically, you should never give your dog any food or drink that has been derived from grapes, as grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause serious health problems, such as kidney failure.

If your dog has mistakenly ingested a grape-based product, such as juice, wine or raisins, then you must immediately call your veterinarian, or better yet, take your dog down to the vet to be examined and treated.

You will know when your dog has eaten grapes, as they will begin to exhibit an array of painful symptoms that will leave them incapacitated and in poor health.

If your dog is acting strangely, then it could be the result of grape poisoning, which takes the form of lethargy, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea,  abdominal pain and extreme dehydration.

The dog will also demonstrate a loss of appetite, so you need to make sure you get help or you could risk your dog dying.

When it comes down to it, the best drink you can give your dog is a bowl and cold and clean water, as anything else will usually contain unhealthy or toxic ingredients that could greatly harm your dog’s overall health.

Fruit juices are fine in moderation, but you should always make sure that they are dog friendly before giving them to your pet.

Some fruit juices may also contain ingredients that your dog could be allergic to, so we recommend calling your veterinarian for advice on the best fruit juices for your dog’s digestion.
